Call for Entries: OFFICE #2 Design Challenge

The Office Design Challenge Edition #2 is the second in an annual competition series in which participants are tasked with exploring the work environment. The jury will be looking for design projects that use architecture as a tool to improve the workers’ wellbeing, as well as their productivity. This challenge is an opportunity to envision the new normal of the workplace post-COVID.

Participants are asked to design a public coworking space with an efficient layout for 30–40 workspaces. The space should invoke creative thinking and collaboration with other like-minded individuals, therefore, an element of play should be incorporated into the designs, either as a dedicated area or throughout the space.

 

Suggested Building Programme

The participants are recommended to include the following functions.

  • Management Offices
  • Internal and external circulation spaces must be explained
  • Efficient layout for the workspaces (quantity of the workspaces will range from 30 to 40)
  • Soundproof meeting room for 6 people
  • One soundproof telephone booth
  • Small open-concept library
  • Kitchen
  • Relaxation/play area (can be combined with kitchen)
  • Small storage space (2–4 m2)
  • Four private offices with 4 workspaces each

The Building Programme is flexible, open to modifications and improved development strategies.

3 winning proposals, 2 special award recipients and 6 honourable mentions will be selected. Buildner will award a total of EUR7,000 in prize money to competition winners.

  • Certificates

Buildner will acknowledge the outstanding performance of all winners with Certificates of Achievement.

  • Publicity campaign

Important Dates

Preliminary Registration Deadlines

Early Bird Registration: November 1 – January 3

Advance Registration: January 4 – March 1

Last Minute Registration: March 2 – May 4

It is still possible to participate in this competition after the preliminary deadlines, however, a higher late registration fee will be charged.

Closing date for submission: June 2, 2023 (11:59 p.m. London Time)

Announcement of the winners: July 19, 2023

 

Eligibility

The competition is open to all. No professional qualifications are required. Design proposals can be developed individually or by teams (4 team members maximum).

People who have direct personal or professional relationships with jury panel members or organisers may not participate in this competition.

 

Recommended Submission Content

  • A cityscape to illustrate how the proposal fits in with the quality, value, and significance of the historical and modern urban structure of selected context.
  • The main points of proposed plans and sections, multiple internal and external perspectives demonstrating the spatial quality of the building, as well as operational needs and accessibility requirements.
  • Demonstration of project construction, materiality, functions, management and maintenance; approach to environment, energy and sustainability, indoor environment, and logistics.

Please note the Presentation Deliverables Set listed above is a suggestion only. Participants can choose to use the entire list, a selection from it, or propose a completely different set that would explain their design in the most efficient manner.
