New Zealand Design Week: Shaping Interior Design and Architecture

January 28, 2026

New Zealand Design Week will take place 2–10 March 2026 in Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland), with its main hub on Queen’s Wharf, a waterfront venue that anchors the festival’s interior design and architecture programme. This design event places a strong spotlight on interior design and architecture, positioning spatial practice at the heart of its multidisciplinary programme. Across exhibitions, installations and talks, the festival explores how interiors and the built environment shape everyday life emotionally, culturally and socially.

Interior designers and architects are prominently featured through spatial installations, furniture and lighting showcases, and material-led explorations that reflect New Zealand’s sensitivity to craft, sustainability and place. Many projects emphasise human-centred design, adaptive reuse and thoughtful materiality, offering practical and conceptual insights into how spaces can respond to changing lifestyles and environmental concerns.

Architectural discourse is woven through panel discussions and keynote sessions, where practitioners share approaches to residential, commercial and public projects, often highlighting the relationship between architecture, interiors and landscape. Studio-led events and showroom activations further ground these ideas in real-world applications, allowing visitors to engage directly with designers and their processes.

While New Zealand Design Week spans multiple design disciplines, its focus on spatial storytelling, interiors and architectural thinking makes it particularly relevant for professionals and enthusiasts seeking a deeper understanding of contemporary interior and architectural practice in the Asia-Pacific context.
