Accor Expands Hospitality Portfolio in Malaysia

April 24, 2023

Accor, a leading global hospitality group, recently opened Mercure Miri City Centre in Malaysia, a modern hotel that seamlessly blends international hospitality with a design concept that celebrates the natural wonders of Borneo. Located in Miri, the second-largest city in the state of Sarawak, Mercure Miri City Centre is surrounded by local attractions, government offices, shopping malls, and a heritage centre, making it a popular destination for both business and leisure travelers. The hotel features nature-inspired interiors with bright colors, authentic crafts, and a collection of curated artworks that showcase the abundant flora and fauna of the region, as well as Sarawak’s 32 ethnic groups.

Mercure Miri City Centre aims to be a social hub where guests can dine, meet, and unwind. The hotel has a multi-cuisine restaurant called Belian that transforms throughout the day to create different vibes, a casual café and gelato parlor called Atoti that specialises in house-made gelato using traditional Italian recipes, and an Asian and Latin American-themed restaurant and bar called Cavakita that serves chargrilled meats and fresh seafood with locally-inspired beverages. The rooftop infinity swimming pool is adorned with colourful illustrations and is perfect for guests to cool off, and the fitness center is available for those who wish to work out. At night, Cavakita offers sensational views of the sea and becomes the new go-to spot in Miri.

For corporate travelers and meeting planners, the hotel features two dedicated floors of conference and banqueting facilities. The light-filled Terabai Grand Ballroom, located on Level 3A, boasts 6.8-meter-high ceilings and can host up to 200 delegates for large functions or be divided into two. Additionally, the Ruai Coworking Space, which features stadium seating, private booths, and various styles of workstations, is ideal for the new generation of professionals who blur the boundaries between business and social interaction.

Aligned with the group’s commitment to reducing environmental impact and strengthening efforts to combat plastic pollution, Mercure Miri City Centre is eliminating all single-use plastics from every touchpoint of the guest experience in all areas of the hotel. The hotel’s locally inspired interior design and energetic aesthetics reflect the spirit of Miri and its people, and the dining options embrace Mercure’s commitment to offering experiences tied to local communities. The hotel’s collection of restaurants and bars offer quality home-made food and beverage options from locally sourced seasonal produce, as well as nightlife and entertainment. Mercure Miri City Centre is a social hub and a new favourite haunt for food, drinks, and events for locals and travellers alike.
