Agape: New Spaces for Research Between Materials and Geometries

July 3, 2024

Agape, with more than 50 years of experience dedicated to research around the bathroom as an architectural space for well-being, presented new ways of experiencing and living it during Milan Design Week 2024—an exploration in multiple directions, investigating material, color, and function. Patricia Urquiola’s Cenote Lava bathtub reveals the expressive power of lava stone through the artistry of hands. Sculptural and material power are also the common thread of the Marmi e Pietre collection, a reissue of iconic bathtubs and washbasins.

Through research that breeds continuous refinements, each project becomes dynamic and opens to new functionalities. This is evident in the expansion of Daniele Dalla Pellegrina’s Ted collection, Alessandro Andreucci’s Voilà storage system with a sliding interior, and the resurgence of the renowned 125C lamp by Benedini Associati with the 125L LED model.

Patricia Urquiola’s Vision for Lava and Clay Washbasins

Patricia Urquiola designed new materials and formal expressions for the Cenote family for Agape. The washbasin series, which includes the two countertop versions in clay and lava rock and the free-standing version in clay, now welcomes the Cenote Lava bathtub.

This bathtub is the result of an authentic design and manufacturing challenge. Crafted from volcanic rock through elaborate processing, the bathtub features a rectangular structure with rounded ends. The generous edges give a feeling of additional solidity. The inner surface is polished to an egg-skin texture and finished with a water-oil-repellent solution for easier maintenance. The color resembles deep magma. The countertop washbasins are also available in a new version without the integrated collar base that seamlessly integrates with all Agape systems, particularly the Urquiola-designed Rigo system, which the new brushed aluminum version enhances in terms of architectural essentiality.

Timeless Sculptures

With the new Marmi e Pietre collection, Agape reinterprets a selection of its paradigm projects in a vast selection of marble, travertine, and lava stone: 22 washbasins and 10 bathtubs are now reissued and enhanced in their timeless iconicity, including Spoon, the first bathtub designed by Benedini Associati in 1998. Elegant, singular, durable, and resistant, the stone is rich in variations that make each creation unique. It shapes naturally imperfect executions, where every surface irregularity and color variation is an intrinsic property of the material, creating a unique narrative each time. Agape has expanded the range of marbles in its catalog, all processed with a satin finish: Carrara white, Marquina black, Carnic gray, Alpi green, Emperador dark, Petit Granit, and Travertine, with the possibility of requesting and designing custom solutions and materials.

New Geometries and Functions

An extension of the Ted collection, Daniele Dalla Pellegrina’s new dumb waiter features a simple geometric design. A vertical bar crosses the circular tabletop, which is adjustable in height and available in marble or solid surfaces, matching the rest of the collection. It’s an easy-to-move accessory that can be placed alongside furniture, washbasin, bathtub, and sanitary ware.

125L echoes the lines and materials of 125C, a historic lamp designed by Benedini Associati and now updated with LED technology. The rounded diffuser is made of blown glass, and the body is made of glazed ceramic, available in white or the same shades as Agape sanitary ware.
