The Asia-Pacific Space Designers Association (APSDA) took significant strides in expanding its engagement in Mainland China through a series of milestone events held in Shanghai, marked by strategic collaboration and cultural exchange.
On 31 March, the Asia-Pacific Space Designers Association (APSDA) and the Asia Pacific Design Center (APDC) formalised their strategic partnership with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in Shanghai. This agreement confirms the appointment of APDC as APSDA’s official representative in Mainland China. In this role, APDC will lead efforts to promote APSDA’s initiatives and foster stronger ties with local design organisations and professionals within Mainland China. This partnership reflects a shared vision to enhance regional collaboration and foster the continued development of the interior and spatial design profession across Asia-Pacific.
Later that day, APSDA participated in the Global Design Communication Conference, hosted at the Shanghai Modern Construction Decoration Environment Design & Research Institute Co., Ltd.
The event brought together leaders and representatives from the Architectural Society of China, Institute of Interior Design (Shanghai), APDC, Arcplus, and APSDA, and served as a platform for dialogue and exchange. Discussions included insights into the current landscape of interior design across China and the broader Asia-Pacific region. The session concluded with a site visit at the Shanghai Modern Construction Decoration Environment Design & Research Institute Co., Ltd, reinforcing professional exchange and deepening cross-cultural understanding.
On 1 April, APSDA was honoured to participate in the 2025 International Design Awards Gala, hosted by APDC at the Shangri-La Kerry Hotel Pudong. In his keynote address, Prof. Keat Ong, President of APSDA, formally announced APDC’s appointment as APSDA’s representative in Mainland China. During the same event, APSDA also welcomed the Foshan Environmental Design Association (FEDA) as an Associate Member. A formal certificate presentation ceremony was held, with Mr. Rocco Tse, President of FEDA, receiving the certificate from Professor Keat Ong and Mr. Jason Wang, Secretary General of APDC.
These two days of meaningful engagements underscore APSDA’s commitment to strengthening design partnerships, advancing professional standards, and nurturing a connected community of designers throughout the Asia-Pacific region.
These milestone occasions not only reflect the strengthening of APSDA’s regional presence, but also highlight the shared aspirations of design communities across Asia-Pacific to collaborate, grow, and inspire. With renewed momentum and meaningful partnerships, APSDA remains committed to fostering greater connectivity, cultural exchange, and excellence in interior and spatial design across borders.
