Final Call for MIID REKA Awards 2022

The MIID REKA Awards 2022 for Design Excellence and Industry Excellence by the Malaysian Institute of Interior Designers (MIID) are still open for submission with a deadline of September 30, 2022. 

Aside from Professional and Student Categories, the Design Excellence Award now includes a brand new Emerging Designer Award, a nominated award to provide a platform for the industry’s up-and-coming young nominated designers. This award is open to registered interior design members of MIID and Lembaga Arkitek Malaysia (LAM) for works completed between 2019 and July 31st, 2022 that best embody the pursuit of interior design excellence. 

On the one hand, Malaysian Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) companies that perform outsourced interior work, provide interior work services, generate, supply, or develop interior products are also qualified to compete in the Industry Excellence Award. The awards are intended to honour interior contractors, interior product producers, and suppliers who have greatly influenced the Malaysian interior design sector with their executed projects and services.

MIID REKA Awards 2022 – Design Excellence 

Objectives

  • To recognise Interior Designers and Students who pursue excellence in design which reflect local content in design, detail, material, etc.
  • To recognise the client bodies and builders who enable the achievement of excellence in Interior Design.
  • To promote the development of quality built interior environments that have beneficial, social, physical and cultural impacts on the community and country.
  • To recognise young talent through students’ course works in relation to various components of the course.

  1. Public & Institutional(Public Spaces, Healthcare, Auditoriums, Terminals, etc.)
  2. Food & Beverage(Restaurants & Bars)
  3. Corporate Offices
  4. Hospitality (Hotel, Clubhouse, Spa, etc.)
  5. Retail, Exhibition & Entertainment (Retail, Gallery, Museum, Club, fitness centre, Karaoke, Cinema, Gaming, etc.)
  6. Residential(Houses, Apartments & Condominiums)
  7. Show Units
  8. Green Interior & Adaptive Reuse
  • Student’s Work
  • Emerging Designer Award

Special Awards

  • Best Interior Design of the Year (Winner will be selected from entries from categories 01-08)
  • Aoyama Design Forum (ADF) Special Award

Judging Criteria – Design Excellence – Professional Categories 1-8

  • Design Impact – Express positive impact it has created
  • Creativity/ Originality – Originality of the design merits
  • Spatial Usage – Address functional aspects of the design through the use of strategic space planning
  • Functionality – ergonomics, refine detailing, sustainability aspect

Judging Criteria – Design Excellence – Student Category

  • Concept/ Idea- originality, creativity
  • Space Planning – overall flow, practicality
  • Material & Finishes – lighting, colour scheme, material suitability
  • Presentation – quality of visual presentation, 3D perspectives

Entry Fees

  • MIID Members RM450.00 per entry 
  • Non-Members RM700.00 per entry
  • MIID Student Members RM50.00 per entry

Closing Date & Time

  • All entries must be submitted online, and payment made by Friday, 30th September 2022, 11.59pm.

Judges

The Judges for the Awards comprising design luminaries shall be nominated and approved by the MIID Council. All decisions made by the Judges are final and binding on all entries.

Entry Requirements

  • Participating professional Interior Designers and Architects for Categories 01-08 must be registered with Lembaga Arkitek Malaysia (LAM) and practicing interior design.
  • Entries submitted must be completed between the years 2019 to 31st July 2022.
  • Submissions of projects must be consented to by the client(s)/owner(s).
  • Professionals are welcome to submit one or more entries for any or all categories. Each entry will be subject to the entry fees stated above.
  • For the Student category, each student is only allowed to submit one project per student.

 

MIID REKA Awards 2022 – Design Excellence – Emerging Designer Award

Objectives

  • To recognise up-and-coming designers who have made promising contributions to the Interior Design Industry.
  • To acknowledge outstanding performance of designers within the Interior Design Industry who has involved/participated in elevating the standards of the industry.
  • To promote as a stepping platform for young designers to showcase their work.

Judging Criteria – Design Excellence – Emerging Designer Award

  • Personality – Proven ability to deliver, leadership
  • Talent – Display design excellence
  • Contribution – Contribution towards elevating industry standards and/or image in their cities, or impact society through efforts to help communities and raise quality of life.

Top 5 finalists will be interviewed by the judges.

Entry Fees

  • MIID Members Only – A processing fee of RM 450.00 per entry

  • All entries must be submitted online, and payment made by Friday, 30th September 2022, 11.59pm.

Nominator

  • Must be MIID Corporate Member who is registered with Lembaga Arkitek Malaysia (LAM).
  • To submit a nomination statement about the designer and his/her work.

Nominee

  • These awards are open to MIID Graduate/Associate/Corporate Members only.
  • Nominees must be below the age of 40 as of 31st July 2022.
  • Nominee must not be associated with the nominator’s company.

 

MIID REKA Awards 2022 – Industry Excellence

Objectives

  • To recognise Interior Design Industry players who have made significant contributions to the Interior Design Industry.
  • To acknowledge consistency and outstanding performance of an organisation within the Interior Design Industry and thereby elevating the standards of the Industry.
  • To promote Quality Awareness within the Interior Design Industry through the adoption of Quality values in organisations and their products.
  • In line with Malaysian Institute of Interior Designers (MIID)’s objectives to promote and enlarge the knowledge, study and practice of Interior Design and the related arts and sciences there on.

  • Interior Builders
    • Large (above 20,000 sqft)
    • Medium (5,000 – 20,000 sqft)
    • Small (below 5,000 sqft
  • Interior Products

  • Understanding of the Design Brief
  • Execution, Coordination and Project Management

Entry Fees

  • MIID Member – A processing fee of RM 1,800.00 per entry.
  • Non-Member – A processing fee of RM 2,000.00 per entry.

  • These awards are open to Malaysian registered companies that:
    • Must be registered with CIDB (applies only for interior builders’ category)
    • Construct interior works
    • Provide interior works services
    • Manufacture, supply or design interior products
  • Companies may submit one or more projects, products.
