SIDS Introduces New Council for 2022-2024

The Society of Interior Designers, Singapore (SIDS), the industry body representing Singapore’s interior design fraternity, has announced its new Council for the term 2022 to 2024.

Tung Ching Yew, Managing Director of Spirit of Design Analogy Pte Ltd (SODA®) was elected as the new President succeeding Prof. Keat Ong who has helmed SIDS for the past 3 terms with extensive contribution made to the fraternity.

Tung is the Founder and Managing Director of SODA®, an international award-winning spatial design firm with more than 200 completed projects in 8 countries. Tung has more than 20 years of industrial experience in design consultancy and project management. His unique design methodologies have transformed corporate businesses to stay relevant in current and future markets. The proven track records include international MNCs, government agencies and local SMEs including Infineon Technologies, RHB Bank, Ogawa International, Changi Airport Group, Singapore Totalisator Board (Tote Board), Starhub, Soo Kee Group. In addition, Tung has been contributing to design education for more than 12 years as an adjunct lecturer for diploma and degree programmes with various institutes of higher learning.

“I am grateful to receive the honour of the position of President of the Council.” said Tung Ching Yew. “With this newly elected council, I believe we have the elite team of industry leaders ready to take on the arduous tasks and challenges that lie ahead for the interior design fraternity in Singapore.”

“I believe Tung is the ideal person for the role,” said Prof. Keat Ong, Immediate Past President of the SIDS Council. “Tung’s extensive background and experience with the interior design industry and education will help the Council continue to develop and achieve its goals to a whole new level.”

There were also two new members elected to the Council, namely Henry Yew, Director of Index Design Pte Ltd and Winston Li, Founder of Winston Architect.

In addition, SIDS conferred two fellow members, Cindy Ang, Design Principal of Design Point Interiors Pte Ltd and Simon Ong, Co-Founder and Deputy Chairman from Kingsmen Creatives Ltd.

SIDS has since held its first council meeting, during which the following individuals were co-opted into the council. They are Ho Sock Yee, Course Chair for Diploma in Interior Architecture & Design (IAD) at Temasek Polytechnic, Lawrence Tan, Director of Between Walls Pte Ltd, and Jeslyn Seow, Senior Interior Designer at Elliot James Interior.

The Council has also appointed its panel of honorary advisors which includes eminent individuals from Singapore’s ID fraternity. They are Cindy Ang, Design Principal of Design Point Interiors Pte Ltd, Constance Ann, Director of Constann Design Pte Ltd, Hendra Sutedjo, Director of Orb Associates Pte Ltd, Nicolas Merrow Smith, Principal of Merrowsmith Design Partnership, Peter Tay, Founder and Creative Director of Peter Tay Studio, Phillips M. Connor, Design Leader of Independent Consultants, and Rajesh R Shah, Managing Director of Rag Shah Associates Pte Ltd.
