Superfici Venice Collection: Materica’s New High-Design Interpretations

January 27, 2025

Materica, a company specializing in wire metallization of surfaces, brings to life six extraordinary interpretations of its boiserie, presented as the Superfici Venice Collection. Designed by Antonio Pio Saracino, Draw, and Tiziano Guardini and Luigi Ciuffreda.

Each designer brings a personal vision in synergy with Materica’s alchemical craftsmanship, drawing inspiration from techniques aligned with their aesthetic sensibilities. The Venetian company’s boiseries emerge from a creative fusion of diverse methods. Metallization, achieved through the high-speed fusion and micronization of pure metals—ranging from brass and bronze to copper, alpaca, aluminum, and zinc—is seamlessly combined with oxidation, laser etching, resin coating, and natural pigmentation. Layers of materials and multiple treatments reveal unexpected visual effects.

Another highly versatile element of the collection is its modularity. The boiseries can extend vertically or horizontally, enveloping any space with customizable panels supported by a transversal, universal structure.

Stack by Antonio Pio Saracino creates powerful sculptural scenographies, emphasizing the material opulence of the surfaces.

Magic Mirror by Draw offers a magnetic interplay of solids and voids, an erudite nod to the works of Anish Kapoor.

Tiziano Guardini and Luigi Ciuffreda, in addition to overseeing the creative direction of the Superfici Venice Collection, have crafted four distinct projects inspired by the region to which Materica is deeply connected, offering an original homage to Venice.

Levantina, created by metalizing the precious Venetian velvets of the historic Tessitura Luigi Bevilacqua, forms a captivating three-dimensional and tactile mosaic. The lagoon and the liquid landscapes of the city on water come to life in the Lagunare and Belle Nuit boiseries, while the blurred and evocative contours of the Serenissima (aka Venice) shrouded in mist find expression in the floating, ethereal vibrations of Caigo.

These precious and theatrical surfaces bring to life ever-changing worlds through six distinctive visions that bridge art and design.
