A residential villa situated in an obscure location near West Lake, Hangzhou, China, has been transformed into a private restaurant called In Villa.
Taking inspiration from the natural environ, Daxiang Design integrated nature into the design of this restaurant. The entrance, for instance, is a picture of calm with elements such as a covered bridge, foyer, patio, and lobby.
Walking into the main hall, one is greeted by the sight of busy chefs in the kitchen through heavy lattice glass doors. The living room area is partitioned by a wine cabinet, behind which sits a bar counter, a stove, and a sofa.

The original entrance, located in the corner of the building, was transformed into a secondary entrance, with the staircase redirected to create a bright and spacious new path. The challenge was linking the upper and lower floors of the original site. The sense of separation of each floor was softened with a giant spiral staircase to create connectivity and continuity between the two-and-a-half levels of space. The spiral staircase becomes the focal point of this area, spiralling upwards under bright light emanating from above.

The second floor interchanges bright red, white, and grey to create an impressionable space. A pitched roof structure is used for the second level of the original site to give the space added height. The resulting attic space then serves as an R&D room and KTV leisure area.
In the private rooms on the second floor, windows open up to verdant greenery outside. The interior is purposefully crafted to read elegance and exquisiteness all at once. Attention is paid to elevating the mood and invigorating the senses.
Colours are kept subdued to demonstrate a relaxed vibe that is gratifying and inviting. This style is accentuated with details to make the space classier and more sophisticated.
Outside the dining hall, across the path, guests can sit by the courtyard pool and watch the water cascade against a rock. Throughout, there is a sense of collective calm and exquisite charm.
