China’s Golden Cultural Theatre

June 15, 2022

Goldmantis has built Huanghesong Cultural Theatre in Zhenghou, China which the design team drew inspiration from China’s infamous Yellow River (Huang He), the birthplace of Chinese civilisation. The aim of this theatre is to reconstruct the ritual and music culture from the Central Plains, and utilises modern technology to derive ancient music.

The term “quality” refers to the artistic texture of an area. The treatment of features in this case strives to perfection. The “flowing water” expression form, the external quality and interior use, the vortex artistic expression, and many other elements all adhere to the genius of creating an artistic model of space.

River is an overarching theme throughout the interior design. The integration of ecology and culture mimic the river’s vortex and flows, which is evident from the theatre’s beam. Materials such as super white cave, Monaco grey, grindstone, GRG, and bronze metal replicate the imagery of the Yellow River. The creative integration of all functional spaces through different corridors and halls reflects the fluidity and radial pattern of a river.

This project is an innovative construction from the perspective of project construction cost and environmental protection. The selected materials are under the comprehensive consideration of cost performance, low-carbon environmental protection, and other environmental factors.

Given the current situation of multiple columns in the space due to load-bearing requirements, the designers devise a new strategy for using the column as a decoration carrier, incorporating multiple design elements, and tailor-making the decorative column with cultural beauty, which is not only a creative response to the current situation, but also one of the project’s core features.
