Contemporary GS Energy Workspace in Korea

March 14, 2022

Teoyang Studio has transformed GS Energy’s office aesthetic under the theme of ‘Rediscovery and Contemporary interpretation of Korean aesthetics. In response to the demands of the post-pandemic era, the team had built this new work space style based on neuroscience data.

On the GS Tower’s uppermost floor (36-38F), this space embraces the concept of “Upper Campus” that encompasses the meaning of collaborating, learning, and developing high-standard creative values. All employees can work, rest, and interact with one another within this GS Energy’s innovative workplace. This space also combines contemporary terminologies such as ESG and Agile with art and Korean traditional customs.

The foundation of the workspace is made of neutral wood and beige stone tones, demonstrating comfort, modernism, and the elimination of embellishments. To represent contemporaneity, transformation and the digital era, a chrome and glass combination can be easily found within the compound.

Unlike conventional office spaces, hospitality and openness are the cores of this workplace design. To introduce the convenience of movement and architectural beauty, the installation of vertically expanded stairs emphasises on communication between the floors.

The work station at 36F is designed as an open layout to counter the low floor height. Custom-design furniture helps to incorporate sensibility to the workspace. The arrangement of plants and sanitary technology throughout the space is a response to the importance of a hygienic environment during the pandemic period.

37F works as a main gathering space and a linking bridge between 36F and 38F. The extended lounge and hall space serve as a place for all users, including guests, for reception, resting, socialising, and communication. The furniture is a collaborative work with Eastern Edition to show the sensibility of Korean crafts. Circular Barrisol ceiling mounted inside the lounge and meeting area is an accent to create a distinctive mise-en-scene, with the indirect lighting produces a quiet and subtle ambience across the space.

38F is reserved for CEOs and executives of GS Energy. In order to contain the company’s value and dignity, artworks are introduced to promote creativity flow and break the monotonous work culture. Minimal decorations on the top floor expresses contemporaneity and natural stylishness. To capture locality and traditional Korean aesthetics, structures with Korean traditional patterns were built on the back wall of the secretariat and the ceiling of the lounge.
