Step into a charming secret garden of sort that serves up myriad desserts and be taken away by an elusive air that envelops the space. Located in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, this 2-storey restaurant by Moonlight Cake House boasts a nature-clad décor that truly draws one within.
A wall of printed flora instantly greets one upon entering this restaurant. Pops of green are a recurring feature, with overflowing verdant foliage and strategically placed potted plants. Throughout, the generous use of natural elements such as stones and wood mimic paths in a natural environ, while copious ropes hanging overhead bring in a mix of textures that seals the evocative look of the space.
This project is designed by Rice Design, an award-winning interior design and architectural firm based in Malaysia. The founder of this design practice, Silver Chng, is the present President of Johor Interior Designers Association (2022-2024). True to the design direction of the team, this space offers a refreshing breakaway from the hustle and bustle of city living.
Here, mood lightings create an intimate glow that enhances the overall ambiance, giving one the impression of soaking in the moonlight. Accentuating the interior, the team introduced metallic accents on light pendants and columns to add a decorous touch, successfully elevating the overall composition, and make the space appear richer and more engaging. Tall columns also lent an elusive nuance to this “secret garden”. Throughout, the space is elegantly laid to conjure an uninterrupted flow and a sense of undulating tranquility.
